Wow, 09 May 2014Its like say playing poker 2 people at the table are winner... moresorry mate, but if for instance a whole pie represents 100% of the entire cellphone market, then you can not create an editional 6% percent out of thin air.
eg: 4 quarters equals 100%, 5 fiths equals 100% etc etc.

There're always people who will buy Rolex or LV, you can't call them "suckers", as like i-phone and Samsung.
I was a "sucker" too, but just got a Lenovo K910 and have never been happier before, next aiming at that Xiomi m3i...prefer smaller size during driving. I guess one of the reason people choosing 4" i-phone? humm...

The smoothness and ease of use apple users keep talking about are the result of letting ios tell you what you can and cannot do. On one hand, that's advantageous for people who just want a smartphone, on the other, I've always thought that smartphones are called that because the user is comparatively smart to operate it, not the other way around.

Exactly,
Iphones are too overpriced and over hyped. It dosent match up to any feature of samsung phones.Iphone 5s is half in feature measurement to a samsung s4 or HTC one or xperia Z1 but is much more expensive, why the hell would i pay so much for a phone with such tiny screen, bad camera( which dosent save unprocessed shots), expensive app market and so many limitations. Iphone market is in US where people are a little show off, rich and think less before buying.Thats why they buy it, and since the profit margin is huge, Apple also earns a lot(Iphones are made in China, so their manufacturing costs are quite cheap).

That is really a simplistic comparison but as the article states some break even with Nokia being the major loser
You will see the article yesterday with Xiaomi pushing Apple into 3rd place in China so second after Samsung.
Samsungs profits like all others is spread over a range of devices, Apples main profit maker is the iPhone whose one device has a substantial markup.
Nokia is picking up market share but is losing money per phone sold. Every software upgrade in Windows 8 brings more functionality which imo is too slow and Microsoft needs a major upgrade that puts its into the same ballpark as Android
In the newer markets entry level phones are being bought at the expense of premium high end phones and Xiaomi is an Android phone which has a medium to high end spec with a "entry" level cost offering Quad Core CPU to both Nokia and Apples Dual Core.
There is a shift and profitable companies like Apple will still be profitable on smaller sales

itsmeagainooo, 09 May 2014Its because other's negative profitActually he is right. Other companies losses do not go to other companies profits, it just goes into the economy. Apple and Samsung together got ALL the profits of the industy and that is 100%, not 106%.

Apple is making more money than Samsung because it is selling cheap phone , manufacturing cost is just $199 for iphone 5 , in very high price. Samsung is selling phones in less profit , manufacturing cost of galaxy s5 is $255 , and much more better hardware. I think people are aware of these things and apple slowing down this years while Samsung has sold more smart phones than top four seller s together . So Samsung is giving best phones in best price.

Their profit comes at the expense of our loss.
It may good for the company's shareholders, but its bad for its customers.
They are selling an overpriced product to us and creating hyperprofit.
In Europe flagship phones cost +1000$
LG and Sony sell on reasonable prices and therefore cannot make such hyperprofit.
I wonder of for Apple the profits refer solely on hardware sales, or include profits from their monopoly of the appstore and itunes.

Owned iPhone 5S for six months and havent seen any of these? Actually havent seen any problems, iPhone 5S have worked perfectly, just like my iPhone 3GS for four years before that.
And thats the premium experience which is is worth the price. Also the fact that everything what i throw for my iOS device runs silky silky smooth.
