I'm on O2 too. The price of the phone is not dependent on the unit, it's dependent on the fact that it's only an upgrade. But if you sign up for a new line, older phones are cheaper. 5S and 5C are Apple's way of making customers choose between the two they have at the same time, thus competing with itself.

Apple doesn't compete with itself. When a new phone launches, traditionally they don't drop the prices of the old ones as they want customers to buy the new ones. We used to get complaints all the time on O2 Upgrades because the iphone 4 (for example) was almost the same price as the 4S - it was the same every time a "new" phone launched.
Apple currently only has 2 handsets on active promotion (5s and 5c) which are not aimed at the same type of user and, while both are expensive for what you actually get, they are not in the same price bracket as each other.
As for comments about the Butterfly/One not competing with each other: you just listed what you see as the merits of both handsets, but did not specify what you want to use the phone for or what the actual difference is between the two.

I prefer HTC Butterfly S design than HTC One (M7), but HTC M8 seems to be prettier than B2.
Some people prefer aluminium, others prefer plastic. HTC is not Apple, they give choices to the user.

Yeah. Japanese cellular operator KDDI once announced at their 2014 summer presentation that a new HTC J smartphone will be coming out this summer.

Should HTC care about losing a handful of people over something so trivial?

Seriously, HTC needs an intervention when it comes to huge bezels...what the hell is with humongous bezels on these devices. IF these persist, no matter how much love we all have for HTC...many of their die hard fans will abandon ship. It is getting ridiculous. I hope the rumored HTC One M8 prime deviates from this trend...learn something from the LG G2/G3 and also Sharp Aquos Xx 302Sh which have minimal bezels.

Unfortunately it looks like this will be sold only in Asia and with a glossy back as well. I hate those phones with glossy/shiny plastic material, its okay with matte plastic.

I would suggest the Butterfly S any day over the junk M7 One. This phone has that potential again over the M8 One.
