Samsung launches 7-inch Galaxy W smartphone in Korea

02 June, 2014
Despite the gargantuan size, the specs of the Galaxy W are distinctly that of a mid-range smartphone.

Oh ! That will NOT help my plans to buy the Huawei X1 !
If Samsung can rip off people with a price of
    > over $500.- (!) US dollars for that medicre spec - then Huawei no doubt will be encouraged to price their much superior HUAWEI HONOR X1 EVEN HIGHER !
Why , Huawei has taken forever to release their X1 !
It was first reported in FEBRUARY, and said to be released in march. Then it was said to arrive in April. And then it was to be delivered in May. Now the rumour is that it will come in June ( OK, you get the picture, right ? Isn't it June already ? )
Why woukd I buy that Samsung , if there's a much better 7"-incher coming soon. Or have Samsung bought Huaweis' new up-and-coming star, to eliminate competition ?
I'll keep the faith - one day that Huawei X1 might actually become available , or ?

It might be worth looking it up before making smug posts which extol the 'virtues' of consumer markets that are primarily interested in 'bling' products

And its gonna sell well all over South East Asia, this is surely one of Samsungs new bestsellers but they are late, people been asking for this for a long time.

Its could sell well outside Asia also, many females like big phones, but i doubt Samsung bothers to launch this in Europe, the European market matures too slowly, always the last to catch new trends and carrier deals in most of Europe doesnt favor midrange phones anyway. Russia otoh is a given for this one, a very adaptive and up to date market.

I belive it's a good ideea. Surely it will be hard to use a 7 inch phone with one hand, but la larger screen has ít's benefits. I belive we will see even bigger phones than this with 8-9 inches display

I personnally wouldn't use a device anywhere near that size (currently, 5.1 - 5.2 is my max).

But I don't think this "phablet" is aimed at the European or US market, but most likely for South Korean and maybe other Asian countries.

From what someone told me, many of them use tablets as phones over there, so phones of that size are actually well received.

Samsung is just following the market, that's all..

Surprisingly enough, I know people who use 8'+ tablets for calls.

It looks odd, but honestly, many people talk very little on their phones, compared to browsing, messaging and gaming. As GSMArena states on their Mega 6.3 review, everything but calls is better on larger screen.

You basically want a 2' disply phone for talking only and a 12' tablet for gaming, brwosing, messaging, etc. So a 7' phone is not that bad. The only downside is that you don't have pockets large enough to fit them.

When you walk down the street talking on this phone and accidentally bump into somebody, you can say sorry I could not see you because I was talking on my phone.
