Second, there is a link right at the bottom of the article with the source. Click on it an you will see this is a worldwide report.
Third, Samsung released over 30 models of smartphones last year. This report is talking about individual phones. You can see as many Samsung products as you want, but all those Galaxy Stars and Galaxy Aces just don't have the impact of high end phones.

On the subject of privacy, isn't it ironic that not many actually really investigated what "open vs closed" systems really meant, before shouting and shouting it like a mantra.
Interesting to note that now that Apple has set its rules on security and its closed system, it is now opening slowly to allow developers more access, having matured and a solid foundation.
Android, due to fragmentation and problems, after shouting its "open is king" mantra, becomes more closed with each iteration.

Another biased sales report. There is no benchmark for worldwide sales. it depends on each country and carrier. Iphone is best selling in America. Samsung are the best selling in Korea/Far East. And europe. it just depends who does the survey.
