Those devices came sametime ;) but i can also chose iPad 3 and showing the same game http://youtu.be/nnIKzfk5VEk so are you happy now? This iPad is 1 and half older yet it beats the note 2014 edition.

It is what is, no matter what you try to say or make excuses, android gaming performance is very bad and always been.

If Apple increases RAM also it need not go to 2GHz to do this

That can be compared to die fabrications for CPU/GPU's. They have become smaller and smaller while increasing performance. e.g. 28nm, 20nm, 14nm, etc.

See, that's something that I don't agree with. Right now, browsing the net, my system is running cool & efficient. The moment I start up 3DMark/PCMark, all hell breaks loose! Depending on the test, all CPU/GPU cores scale to their highest clocks. ATI/nVidia even have profiles for these applications to trigger this extreme behavior, ensuring that users get the highest result possible.

That's not enough for me though. I proceed to manually ramp up fan speeds, enter the bios and safely push everything to its lowest/highest, most stable voltage/clocks, and then really test hard. Benchmarking without giving it everything my system has to offer is a waste of time. What's the point?

I don't see it as cheating. Mobile devices should react the same. Samsung and HTC did right by having benchmark apps trigger higher clock speeds. From the moment I rooted my Note 3, no benchmark test has ever been run without using Trickster MOD or something to increase my CPU/GPU frequencies first. No way am I sharing a test with the world without them getting the very best of what my device can do.

Edit: 8:15am (EST) where I am. Off today, but gotta get some sleep. Lol. I'll pick up from here tomorrow.

However, its also important to point out that Apple doesnt really strive to destroy benchmark tests, in fact they scale back performance in some cases, as they always seek out the best balance between battery life and performance. If nothing lags, or even glitches, then why the need for more power when it can off set battery life. A point in efficiency which I happen to believe in as well.

This is opposite to Samsung's approach for example, to the point it 'cheats' in benchmarks. Understandable, as benchmark performance was one reason Galaxy was amongst the first Androids to rise and keep its dominant position. Only after 3 generations are rivals now finally undoing Samsung's work.

it is only a preference, but I do prefer the elegant approach to engineering Apple adopts.

Anonymous, 12 Jul 2014Apple has always been more about striving for the best 'com... moreAgreed for the most part, except the "4 inch is enough"/512kb oughta be enough for everybody fallacy.

If they want to keep the same ppi at 4.7 inch and 5.5, they're gonna need to increase the resolution dramatically. Thus we could say the only reason the iPhones were "efficient" was because of their tiny screens.

At these sizes, keeping the same ppi, they'll need to have respectively:

                          2.3 inch x 326ppi
                          4.1 inch x 326ppi

                          750*1337 for the 4.7 incher

                          2.7 inch x 326ppi
                          4.8 inch x 326ppi

                          880*1565 for the 5.5 incher

It will be interesting to see how they fare in the middle to big boys playground seeing that the UI smoothness and 3d performance will be stressed and that at 1080p offscreen tests, previous iPhones weren't revolutionary, but merely up to par.

However, if the iPhone releases at its current rumored specs, it is going to have to destroy performance tests. Scoring even, or just a few thousand ahead isn't going to get an encore from anyone, especially with the G3 and Find 7 putting up great numbers at QHD/534 ppi w/ SD 801 SoC's. That is extremely difficult and exceptional. The SD 805 is even better.

Let's not forget about Samsung's Exynos 5433, which will be in a version of the Note 4 this September. It's at the top of the food chain, and competing directly with the iPhone 5.5. Apple will have it's hand full.

Apple has always been more about striving for the best 'combination' of technology, resulting in (hopefully), a smooth, and pleasant experience.

The 'retina' moniker was introduced merely to show that beyond certain resolutions (at a certain distance), it is superfluous to introduce anymore. So, it is more efficient to stop at a high resolution, whereby the eye no longer differentiates pixels, and then concentrate on smooth performance. This is how Apple is outperforming many flagships, by still using a dual core chip, while you have quad and eight core monsters in rival phones just to compensate.

So while the Samsung approach can be called 'powerful', the Apple approach is aptly described as 'elegant' or 'efficient'.

FYI, did you know that Formula 1 cars engines have become smaller and smaller? Yet their performance keep on increasing. For 2014, this is further shown, where they are moving from 2.4l V8 engines to 1.6l V6 engines.

It is the sheer optimisation and engineering that results in the performance gain. Something to ponder.

While you are knowledgeable, one also has to contend with facts, and truth. So should the A8 indeed turn out superior performance, will you acknowledge it on the day?

                                One certainly hopes so.

AnonD-1825, 12 Jul 2014IPhone 5S is smooth and galaxy S5 is laggy like all android... moreThe resolution itself isn't the only factor. For Instance, the iPad Air @ 1536 x 2048 pixels, 9.7 inches (~264 ppi pixel density) doesn't have much of a challenge as the pixels per inch are extremely low. That same resolution on a 5.5 inch screen would require the GPU to process 465 ppi. I guarantee you that it would be a different story.

Increasing the number of pixels in a display will always tax the GPU more. Higher ppi screens tax fragment shaders (which do the processing for each pixel) on the GPU more. That means you get worse performance for the same GPU because "all" applications have more pixels that need to be processed.

It also means that anything which actually gets near the limits of the hardware (primarily games and graphic benchmarks), you're going to hit those limits much more quickly. Especially in games, as the fragment shaders are almost always going to be the primary bottleneck.

So, again, even the iPhone 6, rumored @ 960 x 1704 pixels, 4.70 inches / 5.5 inches (~416 / ~355 ppi pixel density) is not on par with current high-end FHD devices.

I really hope you Apple fans are learning something from my posts, because I am truly schooling you. Read back a few pages and educate yourselves.

Fact is, Apple caught the entire industry with their pants down, which is admitted by senior executives in a few leading rival companies.

The naysaying is useless, as all your companies wish, and are now trying their best to catch up to. Qualcomm exec came with a response saying it was a gimmick, and immediately got fired as Qualcomm were also moving to 64bit.

Samsung immediately promised that its next Galaxy smartphones would be 64bit (probably in a fit of rage, not thinking that Android would also need to support it), and sadly just empty promises.

That being said, there are benefits to be gained:

For one thing, 64-bit integer math will allow the A7 to execute operations much faster than the 32-bit A6. “The fact that the A7 has twice as many processor registers means that more operations can occur without the processor using main memory, which is slower to access,”

Carl Howe, VP of research and data sciences at the Yankee Group told AllThingsD. “This means that for some codes, the A7 will be twice as fast (or faster depending on how many memory accesses the original code had) to run code because the processor doesn’t have to use main memory as much.”
