Reason is simple: commercialize a down-specs version of G3 at a lower price keeping the overall project concept (nice form factor, rear buttons, better display than competitors, etc)
for me the phone makes sense and if the price will be between 300 and 400$ I'm considering to buy as I can't see better phones at this price.

could someone please explain in the world who is that stupid (sorry, but it's true) to make S model (mini model) with 5 inch screen
that's almost top line for smartphones, and not for mini smartphones (cause everything higher than 5.1 inches are phablets)

sony Z1 Compact is over price US$450-500, you can get even better phone at lower price,
LG G2 mini sold like a cup cake in Asia and the price is really friendly, the specs and performance of the phone is really amazing!
expect G3mini will do even better than G2 mini,

The only big difference should be the size. What all the other manufacturers are doing, except sony is making minis that are far from being on par with their flagship devices. That can only be called a budget device with the name of the flagship slapped on to it. Comprende, amigo?

the reason they are not using snapdragon 600 because it does not have a modem, unless they use the 610 which is still not mass market ready :)

The LG G3 is 5.5" so why buy a , which like you said only Sony offer similar specs in their mini phones as their flagship
I'm in a shop looking at the Z2, G3, M8 and decide they are too big this phone is not a smaller option
