Nokia pulls the plug of Ovi Share development, leaving it as it is

Nokia decided to stop developing the first Ovi service - Ovi Share. The service will continue to operate in its current state but won't see any further investment. Recession is not the only cause for this turn...

[deleted post]Ovi's significance? It's absolutely nil. Never used it and 99.9% of nokia users never have and never will. Nokias are good for one thing only: calling and texting. Nothing else. The 6300 is the best phone nokia has made recently, they need to stick to no nonsense phones like that, because they suck at everything else.

      bur the syncing content from my phone to the ovi account was pretty cool i've never lost a number that i had on my SIM card lol

        I think this decision is a little short sighted...

        While I can understand it in these tough economic times, it seems apparent they are missing an opportunity...

        OVI, while having existed for some time, is only just about to grow substanially as a brand, due to the impending release of the Nokia N97, and the opening of the Apps store...

        I am predicting, with the opening of the App store and the release of the N97, OVI services in general will see a substanial if not meteroric increase in users/subscribers, hence justifying investment now, to improve the quality of said services and retain those users longterm.

        Nokia could always invest later into such services...but by then, they may be behind the 8 ball, too far behone the competition.

        Time will tell if this is a mistake or not.

            hi, this can be a very tough time and decision. but its a time based. And if Nokia stops putting its eyes on development of OVI then also we can expect some good softwares.

              The service had a lot of potential but was not executed to its fullest.

              They shouldn't have tried to make an 'ovi community'.

              I think Ovi services are AWESOME, and that's what they should stay, pure mechainal, efficiency increasing services.

                Abandoning the focus on providing services which already exist will allow the company to focus on its core strengths of mobile software and hardware design and manufacture. The fact that its various E, N Series etc product divisions are slowly but surely merging in the minds of the public if not at corporate HQ suggests that the company wants to be a leader in mobile multimedia digital integration devices. Therefore diverting too much attention towards designing services which already exist would be potentially a costly distraction.
