Nokia 6600i slides into action with a 5 megapixel snapper

19 May, 2009
An updated version of the highly likable Nokia 6600 slide has officially been announced to the public. At first glance, it would hardly seem a big thing, as the Nokia 6600i shares its name with the original device, however...

hi, 20 May 2009LG Crystal is a differant slider phoneDo ypu understand English? Physical dimensions and "slider" shell design parameters are NOT the same as material used, as in transparent keyboard or whatever. Close the LG slide out keyboard or change the colour of the keyboard and it will look like any other new slider. Jesus!

Stop posting nonsense about that company copies this phone or that company copies that phone or whatever crap. How many ways do u actually think that you can make a "slider" phone look physically different? Or how many ways can you make fullscreen touchphone look different from eachother, what can you change? It's still a big screen that covers the whole front and they all have to look the same in one way or another. Tires of crap people saying this or that is a copy of iPhone or the other way around etc. Or this Nokia is copy of Samsung, once again, how many ways do u think you can make a "slider" phone with the "slider" mechanism look pysically so differant that it doesn't remind u of another phone? Jackass!

[deleted post]Guess you never tried any phone from Moto, especially (flip) phones with Crystal Talk technology...

Users who value voice quality after trying Moto phones with Crystal Talk would throw the others into the trash...

Well, the looks haven't changed much, the UI is virtually the same or so it is said, so the only advantage seems to be the 5MP camera. In that case, I just hope Nokia's been able to solve all the software bugs its predecessor suffers from... it seems like every firmware update I do solves one issue and starts another, Nokia cusotmer care here in Belgium offers little help (i.e. when I call to say my ambient light sensor no longer triggers keypad illumination their reply is "oh, I've just taken the same model out of the rack here and I don't have the problem sir"...)
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this new Nokia, but me personally... I'm switching back to Samsung, or maybe even HTC.

Not much of a lens to back up a 5MP camera, looks like a nice phone though

kaiser, 19 May 2009Design looks a copy on a old Samsung model, then i never ex... moreyou mean Samsung can never be original.. lets not forget the plethora of Samsung's iPhone look-alikes.. Nokia certainly hasn't jumped on that bandwagon but instead working on things far ahead than anything Samsung can come up with.. ever tried opening up a Samsung phone? the components inside are 10yrs behind that of a Nokia phone

As a 6600 Slide I can say that the device sets the standards when it comes to build quality. With its good range of features it has represented great value. If version 'i' retains the build quality of the original along with the new camera module it will sell extremely well among those who value quality in construction. Incidentally the 3.2 megapixel version it apparently replaces does take very good images and so buyers might be able to get this one for a bargain price with the arrival of version 'i'. Why can't Nokia's N Series be built like these? I guess it's cost. If version 'i' does indeed cost 200 euros it will fly off the shelves.
