Every day I ask the tech media:
What is this mediocre phone more "special" than all the other Samsung mid-range phones, so we to read articles about it EVERY SINGLE DAY????
              No answer so far.:)

A complex, difficult to use OS like Android isn't everyone's cup of tea. People will use what they have to use, and put up with it. That doesn't mean they LOVE it.

Windows is the same. The most popular desktop OS on the market. But if you ask the majority of users, they feel frustrated by the amount of issues it is plagued with.

"Locked in" for developers and companies is no good, but for many everyday consumers it's perfect. It means fewer flaws, whilst maintaining the functionality they ACTUALLY need to use on a daily basis. Not having too many bells and whistles for a lot of consumers means fewer things that can go wrong or change the experience.

Also one of the reasons why Windows used to come in multiple flavours, which was VERY smart.

samsung is still persisting with its old designs, its like new wine in old bottle, even s5 does not look premium enough.I think it has to learn from fairly new comers like Huawei,Gionee.

Once you've found your fave line of phones, I think that design becomes less important with each model. You want better, more reliable features. Sure, the design shouldn't diminish as long as it stays classy and elegant.

With Samsung, they should focus more on the customer service and experience elements, less about bagging out the competition, and more about their own homegrown OS that can truly compete with iOS. Android is for everyone else.

I'm consider myself Samsung Fan,but the latest designs don't impress. Galaxy S 5 feels and looks just average, that new Alpha design looks like the first Galaxy ace. From the hard ware to the soft ware i belief Samsung is doing OK,but from the look you have to do much better, most Chinese phone look better today. At the moment I have Galaxy s 3 Mini: software, hard ware, screen good, back cover is strong, but frame around is cheap plastic, with crack and eroding of the color due to the hand sweat,2 year old. Recommend that a Radio is a muss, not everybody has high end cell plan with unlimited WIFI, open or public Wifi you find only cities, in Urban area or Provinces Radio is still very popular, but people do invest in pricy phone. Keep going and change for better and maybe a few lesser models.

Suvham N8, 31 Jul 2014I can agree that this phone has better design than all the ... moreIt really depends on what he means by design.

If he means "aesthetics" and "build quality" then the iPhone will have the edge for sure (no matter how subjective aesthetics may be, given the plentiful of similarities in format, I think it's fair to rule subjectivity aside in this department).

On the other hand if he actually refers to "product design" then I can see how this phone may have the upper hand, mostly given by the underlying open and neatly integrated Android system vs. the restrictive locked-in iOS, plus the actual compliance with massively adopted standards such as micro-USB connectors and such. -- This is superior "product design".
