On a cheaper phone, I'm prepared to take that chance.

I'm surprised Samsung agreed to this, as it's heavily weighted against them; Apple must be giving them something in return we obviously don't know about!!??
Personally I wouldn't buy any phone/tablet/phablet from either of them - Samsung are renowned for their bloatware & Apple for being overpriced.
My aim in purchasing smartphones is to buy the cheapest I can, easily rootable & then load a Custom ROM onto (like Cyanogen).

Maybe you should read beyond the headlines once in a while.
