There was a recent MIT article about the ability to use infrared LED lights and machine learning techniques to turn a single-lens camera into a 3-D one.

      technologyreview/com/news/529986/turning-a-regular-smartphone-camera-into-a-3-d-one/

Someone on my Google plus feed wrote this comment about it:

      >**MIT's New Single-Lens 3D Camera Looks a Lot Like the Moto X+1's**
      >
      > Thinking of Google's +Project Tango, which is using a dual-camera prototype mobile device to provide 3D mapping of objects and of spaces that you walk through, This development from MIT that uses a single traditional camera lens in conjunction with near-infrared LEDs, which essentially turn the camera into both a traditional camera and an infrared camera.
      >
      > ---
      > What's particularly interesting about this new device is that it looks remarkably similar to the supposedly zero-flash camera being seen in early leaked photos that purport to show the upcoming Moto X+1 smartphone).
      >
      > The alleged Moto photo shows only four small LED lamps of some kind surrounding the camera lens, while there are six near-infrared LED sensors in the MIT design, but the layout and the probable sizes is essentially identical.
      >
      > ---
      >
      > My guess: Moto may be one of the first to get a single-lens 3D camera, probably not in the upcoming Moto X+1, but no doubt the multilateral brainstorming that's a part of the +Google ATAP team's product development may have inspired some further refinements at MIT - or vice versa.
      >
      > At Google I/O next year the fruits of Project Tango in more production-ready form are likely to surface, and the form factor for Moto X+1-generation phones looks to be ready for the opportunity coming from Tango.

      Also:

      > “turn the camera into both a traditional camera and an infrared camera”

      ---
      > “sensors are coming out that can switch between regular camera and infrared camera”

      wired/co/uk/news/archive/2014-02/25/eye-tribe-android

Eye-tracking requires a camera that senses infrared.

Maybe this is the kind of switching sensor that the Eye Tribe eye-tracking company is talking about?

      Or maybe I’m completely wrong.

Design of the Moto X+1 seems to be very ugly. Other specs are well.

So this is what happens when Lenovo takes over Motorola. I think they're intentionally and distastefully corrupting the (American) brands which they buy e.g IBM so that they can promote their own set of products. IDK, bottomline is, the x+1 is ugly.

What have you done Moto? I have always admired you and love your current running breed of products but this? Ugly Ugly Ugly. No different from countless chinese cheapos which are sold roadsides at $50. Grr. If was looking to have Moto X's successor next month but if this is what it looks like, I would better go with a Xiaomi product. No choice, sorry. I still hope its not the end product, or even if it is, it is not Moto X+1.

Front looks good but back ......specially black one looks damn ugly.....i think the camera and the logo should not have been placed together. Also the camera looks very loud to me.

Does that look like a 16:10, instead of 16:9, screen? That would be nice. I've always prefered the 16:10 screen on the Nexus 4. A little bit of extra width is way more useful for rendering webpages, than the super tall narrow screens like in the HTC M8 and the iPhones.

Even the Nexus 5, though having a taller but not wider screen than the Nexus 4, didn't really create much more useable space. In fact, because of the way Android uses density independent pixels, the Nexus 5 displayed less information on it's screen than the Nexus 4, despite having a larger screen and higher resolution (because the change to a 16:9 aspect ratio resulted in density independent pixels being reduced).

It has front facing speakers which if HTC has proven is great for multimedia playback. Where Moto X tmay have gone one better is the device isn't as long as the M8.

It looks like the screen is bigger within existing body that got a lot good reviews.

Nice phone. Not spectacular design but really practical and very, very compact! This is Moto! It is so compact that when you see that in that dimensions they also included frontal stereo speakers you could not believe. Really good!

It doesn't look as ugly as old mama Samsung. Her face is so dummy just as the plastic is made with. The S3 was a nice device for the time but they haven't changed much. Moto X+1 will bring better name to the popular Moto X.

Woodden back looks, but front Moto-E-like grills don't. Black Moto X and Moto G minimal front is great, this doesn't look so good.
