Besides, it doesn't matter since Android apps aren't compiled against any specific architecture unless the developer specifically uses the NDK. Bytecode runs in the JVM (Dalvik in this case) and thus does not directly interface with the underlying hardware. Moving Android to AArch64 will make no difference for app developers.

Think of a game for example. A few years back they needed only to store and show textures which looked good on a 800 x 480 screen maybe less. Now what we got? 2560 x 1440 resolution. So apps do need more and more RAM, and they need 64 bit addressing since with a 32 bit software environment, no matter how much RAM you got the process cannot address over 3gigs. It happened with PCs as well - even if you had 64 bit OS and 64 bit CPU, when you ran 32 bit apps like a game- the application's process could not address over 3 gigs of RAM. So in overall we need 64 bit CPU, 64 bit HAL and 64 bit OS, and 64 bit apps. The RAM chip itself is very cheap and the easiest way to enhance the system's resources.

              I'm not the most tech savvy person, but changing from x86 to x64 will only cause problems for Apps as that would mean making all Apps compatible with the 64-bit architect. As on Android most phone will be x86. And TBH the new architect will be an improvement but what on because it wont make any noticeable difference.

              Please correct me if I'm wrong but that's generally how it is.

                so again ask yourself, why do we need cpus, the internet, smartphones ? we dont need, we want. and when we want, we dont answers to anybody else when it's our hard earned cash that we're spending. so if YOU dont like it, go make your own 4 bit smartphone, and leave the rest to mind their own business instead of answerin to stupid questions like yours.

                  As an IT guy I can say that 64 bit processors are a bit slower compared to 32 bit parts when it comes to clock for clock - AND when they are running 32 bit code. Now its eighter we see fully 64 bit optimized OS, drivers and apps, or we see over 3 gigs of RAM. Otherwise (or until eighter of these wont happen) 64 bit computing is completely useless and not anything more than a marketing tool.

                            ask yourself why do you need 64-bit on phone? its not PC, thx to system(no matter if its android or iOS) ist not gonna use any of adventage of this CPU, its probably gonna be faster than today cpu's but not because of this 64bit but because its gonna be just more polished than older models of processor... and 4GB of ram? seriously? better fix system rather than hide bugs behind more power...

                                HTC's mediocre phone will be overshadowed by the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to the world. It's unfortunate that HTC chose such a foolish time for the announcement. The will never compete with Samsung's innovation, design and might. Don't wake the sleeping giant, HTC. Know your place, little guy.
