Fascinating as this is, I'd have to say it's a case of "just because you can doesn't mean you should." Just from these images it seems that the curve gets in the way of showing anything meaningful when the device is laid flat (Which I was lead to believe the whole idea of this), and it would expose a very fragile component to even more damage. Also interesting it's only along a single side when the rumours, concepts and patent diagrams all looked like it would be along both.
Much like the other curved phones who's technology hasn't really been duplicated yet, I see this as a stepping stone to something else, but not a useful advance on its own. Yet, anyway.

AnonD-134497, 03 Sep 2014That is not entirely true. Remember, they are just the firs... moreEDGE was INCLUDED in the Samsung Jet S8000, there was an edge which ONLY scrolled up and down, it only function was to load apps into the home screen a
in the S8000 it was only a loader and whilst in edge the apps were passive and although both main & edge were open both screen were effectively locked
So from "passive app in edge on the S8000 SAMSUNG
have seen a feature they themselves develeoped and enhanced it no end.
The thing that makes it innovative is that notification can be directed there
To the naysayers that have dismissed this as a gimmick, your phone does what?

Ok that was a good laugh, a bloat sidebar to handle the bloat, great, now just put a shortcut there to the region lock "feature that our customers asked for" and its all good. With the clown number out of the way (give sammy with the round red nose a big applaus) we are ready for Sony and some Compact goodness, finally we will see a PHONE instead of all these tabletphones.

Love the fact that Samsung is trying new things - this sort of thinking might pave the way to future technologies which one day may become everyday expectancies. And releasing two Notes is something which also should be admired - Well done.
