Vertu Ascent Ti Damascus Steel: some luxury in times of crisis

Just a response to dakkk - the material does have the pattern ALL the way through. It is a mix of two different stainless steels- but to get the pattern really bold you have to etch the material. This 'eats' into the less resilient steel ever so slightly so you get the great contrast!
It's an awesome phone of true craftmanship- what Vertu is all about. If you want iphone toys... buy an iphone!

This one is probably the model i like the most, even though this is pretty ugly too. A complete Damascus Steel phone would mean for the ladies it would double as a self defence weapon, since it won't break. So there ya go its going to me a mind boggelingly expensive device because thats all Vertu dose, with specs a %50 Nokia has, that also doubles as a blunt object when you need one. Even if I has the funds to buy this and hell even if i lived that type of liftstyle in which people buy these things, I still don't think I'd get it, Even though personally this is the most attractive phone they've come out with.

Looks nice, pity it is just etched and not truly made. If they are making only 100 pieces, they could have as well smithed the steel and beaten it into sheets for use in the phone :) This would be COOL!
Looks nice anyway and should actually have the symbian system in it (would make it BOTH durable and damn useful)

like watches, one could go with a cheap $5 kid's watch or get a rolex or panerai costing $50K up.why sell something so expensive that provides the same purpose? it is because there are people who can afford it..they won't make such if noones buying it..period..it may look strange really but look at the ferrari enzo or murcielago, they're not practical to drive ... but there are people who buy it ..why?status symbol..they have the money..plain and simple ..

The swirl is likely to be from the damascus effect of the damascus steel, most items using damascus steel look like this so its probably not an etched pattern unless they have specifically stated it to be so. I believe it is to do with the folds of the steel showing through when polished to a high sheen.
