So phones are primarily phones which now have increasing gaming capabilities and mire games available this would have been a problem in 2010 for Samsung
It is the GPU so the gaming which no doubt in a console would attract a level of fees
Samsung are sourced by a NVIDIA licensed Qualcomm who supplied for years a product to Samsung
NVIDIA appear to say this is how it is being used so a "Gaming" fee is now being demanded
Samsung must have a contract with Qualcomm and I believe BOTH Qualcomm and Samsung are in compliance
Why is Samsung being sued, it would be suicidal to go up against Apple, and Samsung with it 'copying" convictions and the largest company is seen as the best to enforce the revised/ interpretation of this.
I doubt that any other phone company have had any action taken against them by NVIDIA, but this is my best guess as it is the use of a GPU in a device not primarily used for gaming but us increasingly being used so
Again my view is in order for NVIDIA to win is that it Samsung knowingly used a Qualcomm product that it knew breached NVIDIA patents
NVIDIA are not stating that Samsung are using the GPU,ILLEGALLY but the fee NVIDIA expects for it use, so NVIDIA are asking for more as when it was licensed, phone use gas changed and gotten larger

It seems like Sammy is being sued from multiple angles.
I guess next IBM & Microsoft will file law suit against Sammy.

I used to support in the past Samsung as they were innovative company and they wonted to do something. Now I am sure that half of they products are just copy/paste from other companies! They are just slightly better from Chinese companies!

To all those who are complaining why not other OEMs who uses Nvidia's patents? It's simple. They already have paid patent fees ;) This is not some a child fight or child bias that I like this teacher not that or I hate this one not that. This is co-operate world. There are ground reasons behind doing something like that while millions of dollars are revolving behind you. Its not that Nvidia sued other manufacturers. They have done researches or check out their books and probably found out who's giving them patent fees and who is not. Might as well there would be agreements between other manufacturers excluding Samsung and Qualcomm. Use brains people :)

There are two faces of every story. The other OEMs probably have paid the patent fee to Nvidia. Might be just Qualcomm and Samsung not paying the fee. There is something called brains...

The issue is, Samsung doesn't make those GPUs. They buy them. The maker should be liable, not the buyer (or else every phone owner, like you and I, are liable). Samsung didn't violate the patent.
If they did, then so did Apple, Nokia, HTC, LG, etc...they all use off the shelf GPUs purchased from vendors using the tech listed as offending - Adreno, Mali and PowerVR.

Keep in mind that Samsung didn't pay the patent fees. That is why it's being dragged. This might be the case where all the other OEMs have paid patent fees to Nvidia.

if they have had this patent since 1993, why are they suing 21 years later? Wait for the company to grow and sue them when you know you can make billions? Who is NVIDIA again? #justsoI know
