Stondec100, 08 Sep 2014This is an absolutely needless phone. You'll have to be a... moreWhat a completely shortsighted statement, and you can consider this as a smartphone worth getting.

Smartphones are becoming ever more powerful, and if they come pre-installed with sufficient apps they can work as a standalone "business" phone

Even after Nokia said it was abandoning Symbian for Windows, Symbian phones were still being purchased, the price just dropped.

When the Fire Phone was announced,it was linked to AT&T and there were many negative comments

I wrote that the AT&T only had TEMPORARY EXCLUSIVITY as there afaik NEVER been a flagship tied to one network.

There have been VARIANTS of flagship which have been commissioned by a network, but these variants always gave specs lower than the flagship, and expect this to be released on other network if they decide to.

The "problem" with this is that AT&T contract prices were similar to Apples iPhone.

LG earlier reduced the price of the LG G3 so it cost less and took it out of competition to the iPhone, and oddly enough the Fire Phone is prices above that of the 5.5" LG G3

The Fire Phone really really had to come down in price to well below that of the LG G3,

The Fire Phone imo was released to compete directly with the 4.7" iPhone6 which is announced tomorrow 09/09/2014 and the Fire Phone specs will by a large margin be superior to the iPhone6 as well as costing less.

The LG G3 is the best of the 3 phones as it it has memory expansion and cost less
Only I offered at midrange price will the Fire Phone succeed. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6453&idPhone2=6294

You'd almost have to give the phone away for me to take it. It doesn't even have cutting edge specs like the Kindle HDX; it has a dud 3D gimmick which no one gives a crap about. Goodbye Fire Phone, you will not be missed.

"I love this phone. It is the greatest phone in the world!" said nobody. Ever!

This is an absolutely needless phone.
You'll have to be at least partially dumb and ignorant to get this phone, which will limit you to Amazon's ecosystem, rather than buying a "real" Android phone that gives you access to Google's and Amazon's ecosystem.

I can't think of a sensible reason why anyone would buy this.

I wonder if its even worth it launching this phone in Europe, they need lots of major carriers with heavily subsidizing on their core team to make even a dent in the Euro smartphone market.

Good that Amazon shot themselves in the foot, with this one. For starters (in the US), they priced it too high.
