Nokia as a brand and company has been a huge competitor for Samsung, HTC and many others. After being bought by Microsoft, even more.

Fair to say that this transition will wipe the Nokia name from devices but Nokia will forever live on through Microsoft's phone division. They will still have the lens and tech which Nokia acquired some time ago.

                    Forever Nokia.

only fools can say RIP nokia....Nokia is very much alive and getting stronger though its not present in hardware business anymore....in networking business it has posted a profit after ditching phone division.has aquired siemens and now samsung joins nokia to develop maps for tizen OS..coming back to phone division, whether the outfit is microsoft or nokia, every nokia fanboy knows the soul is still nokia..its still the same workforce that manufactures and designs lumia and ofcourse maintaining the same quality.nokia cant be killed...father of mobiles will remain immortal....

Your statement should be when Samsung started to incorporate Android OS on their devices because honestly, Samsung has been around the same time as Nokia and Sony Ericsson entered the arena in mobile making but Samsung was then a cheap wannabe OEM for basic phones then Nokia had that N Series which was a huge success for the company while Sony Ericsson had the Cybershot and Walkman line. Samsung got nothing too big to offer those days. Only the F series phones but was really nothing compared to the walkman line. I just hope though that Nokia retains the basic phones and start from there. They should venture on Android and relive their name.
