While $5k may seem high, if you look at the market for solid 18k gold watches, $5k is actually a very low price. The actual gold content by itself is on the order of $2k-$3k for a standard watch case. That is before even machining the gold and putting in the actual watch mechanisms.

This is completely untrue. The stainless steel and sapphire glass version will cost roughly around $600.

This is pretty likely a marketing strategy, aimed to position the smartwatch as a luxury product... like Rolex.. but I don´t believe the apple watch will be still valuable after four to five years, like most luxury watches do...

Inside the Apple Watch is a computer-on-chip (not a system-on-chip) which can be replaced. Just like you can replace an entire PC (all the components inside), but the case remains.

Apple just thinks it can toss out an electronic watch and charge GrandSeiko or Omega price on it. Ahahahahahaha. HAQ grade watches with superior accuracy usualyl reach prices up to 1500 EUR. Expecting a watch that pretty much entirely depends on a phone to sell for 5k is just a moronic thought. Though with weird userbase Apple has, it's in fact even possible...
