How many people buy smartphones then only use them for calls and other basic functions?
It's a lot because usually unless you're in the geek minority you won't care enough to flash a winmo rom, customize symbian or use any of the underwhelming web browsing or other features.
The iPhone comes along and the Internet is easy, it looks just like your PC, email is easy you enter a username and password, you change SIM's and it all just works, there are no APN settings to mess around with, you don't have to call tech support to set it up.
Result 66% of mobile web traffic is done on iPhone's, worldwide.
ABC, CNN, BBC and many, many others customize their websites to SUIT the iPhone WITH NO NEED FOR FLASH!

They spend billions of dollars to research on groundbreaking technology. Thus i do not agree with your sentence. you can only compare apple in terms of software writing. and nothing else.
I would say when comes to technology, Samsung rocks. They are the company that spend billion of dollars in semiconductor research that had brought the technology to this far. Intel too. But not apple, not in any way.

i didn't care when it was announced to have 3mp camera, faster 3g, compass, etc.
but new cpu&ram is exactly what iphone needs!this upgrade sounds like its worth it now. hopefully less crashing on some apps.

funny.. 412MHz is almost 2x faster speed? oh, I didnt know that iphone 3G was that slow. hate apple, they make cheap electronics including mac that comparably have lower performance than other manufact., but they charge 2x prices on that.

The iPhone jailbreaking community (iPhone OS hacker community) is very quick in exploiting apple's iPhone OS security flaws.

Its funny how this tread became an iphone bashers thread. If you hate the iphone, why did you navigate to this page in the first place? I've never seen such a load of crap on one page. if the iPhone sucks so much then don't buy it, period.

iphones come unlocked, they usualy automaticaly lock onto the first sim card thats inserted into them. if its brand new in box never used, it should be unlocked.

most ppl here havent got a chance to try out all spanking new phs such as iph 3GS, omniaHD, N97, HTC touch pro2, diamond 2 etc. All these phs are so called in the 2nd wave of competition.
During the first wave, iph is a clear winner bcoz stunning screen with fluent and easy UI is what ppl want from smart ph and others cant give it. N96 is a nightmare and dont even have touchscreen. omnia is better in some aspect but the main thing(screen resolution) sucks and laggy.
But just yesterday, I got a chance to try out N97 in a shop. Its super fast and the ph is damn cool (especially white color). Its not bulky but thick due to slide keyboard which iph does not have. So, I think iph 3GS is not a winner in this round of competition. Apple fan can still stick with iph, coz they like to even say 2 mega iph camera is comparable to other 5 or 8 mega phs. :P

iv nokia fan all my life but i have to say that steve jobs changed the mobile world upside down,and when it comes to technology apple rocks and steve jobs is the man,one thing apple should concentrate on is the build quality of this iphone 3gs as with the 3g friends had bad experience,other then that i think its time for me to start appleing the iphone ; )
