Unlocking the Sony Xperia Z3 bootloader degrades camera

Low-light performance and noise reduction algorithms are affected after bootloader unlock.

Sony has good hardware but their software division is lacking skills needed to make good use of it. They have worse photo quality in their Z1/Z2/Z3 than the Galaxy S series for example.

        agree...Sony cameras, regardless Z2, Ultra, Z3, T2 Ultea, they are all $hitty

                Anonymous, 03 Oct 2014What is the point of Unlocking the bootloader ? When you unlock the bootloader, you can flash other custom ROMs.

                When you have just brought the phone it is not really necessary to flash other custom ROMs since they are still new.

                When the OEM has stopped supporting the device say after two years (it has stopped sending any update or android upgrade) and you do not wish to spend more cash on a new expensive phone, then it becomes really worth unlocking the bootloader at that point.

                  Fortunately the Z series have been blessed with good support in this regard (by Android standards), but still there is the question of timing (as the model becomes older Sony will take far more time to update it -- you may end up being one major version behind for many many months) up until the inevitable point where that expected update never sees the light of day.
