Me I cant type properly on anything smaller than 5.5" screen size.
In Asia in particular, people like to use both hands to type, nobody really likes one handed usage that much. They also like larger phones because it's great to read and watch stuff.
As long as there are phones to cater to all sizes there is little room to complain. The Nexus 6 has a larger screen and probably lasts much longer than the Nexus 5. As for processing power you are not going to notice that much of a difference unless you go looking for it (lame benchmarks). If you have the same OS on both and they give smooth experience on both what does it matter to you? The Nexus 6 is not going to be a photo snapper monster, Nexus 5 is already a vastly better phone to Nexus 4 when it comes to camera. It may not be the best but it good enough so don't expect anything more from nexus 6 as well.
When you sum all that up there is little reason to complain that nexus 6 is too big because we still have the Nexus 5. Spec nerds and people who always want more specs because it gives them a placebo are in the minority. They are not important to any OEM's bottom line.

Guys, don't go for phone bigger than 5" - 5.2". In the beginning you'll find it exciting, but as time passes you'll start hating it. Human hands always prefer to hold devices which are comfortable and easy to operate not like sit and start using both hands. I had Note 3 and HTC and G3, iphone4. I like HTC a lot due to ergonomics. You'll love to use device which you can use it with ease.

If LG would have made it we got have got better design not the cheap regular look MOTO..... NEXUS success was because of cost efficient LG and good design

excellent job done by moto n google amazing specs and lol features by google.No one can stand in front of nexus if i would give u rating ill give u 110/100.best hardware by moto m using Moto X n Moto G2 amazing phones....

Too big, too expensive.. Nexus were supposed to be budget phones.. I'll take a flagship from any other brand if I have to spend so much, why nexus!! N the size is ridiculous specially for people who have smaller palms like me.. There's a limit to display size and anything above 5.5 is too big I feel..

6"? Really? Too big to be good.
It's time for other brands to offer Google Play editions.
My guess is LG G3 is currently the best option for Play edition.

you have a typo. near the end-- you said 64gb nexus 5 is $399. I believe you meant the 32gb. There is no 64gb nexus 5 available :P
