Although the mentality "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" holds some validity, with major updates they are actually more like upgrades (adding new capabilities via features and speed improvements). Android 5.x (L) comes with some major differences to 4.x, and I speak of experience having my Nexus 7 tablet upgraded a few weeks ago and compared to all previous version to version updates, never have the changes been so noticeable, particularly in overall use of the device (productivity improvement) - apps start faster, switching to other apps is faster, new capabilities and so on. My tablet has become unusable before the update / -grate to Android 5 / L.
With the Z Ultra this doesn't seem so much of an issue when it comes to overall productivity, but the rest of the Z line, from what I know, would see a tremendous improvement when changing to Android 5 / L.
