Oppo F27 5G arrives quietly with IP64 rating, long-lasting battery and a light ring

This June Oppo released the tough F27 Pro+, a phone with an IP69K rating and MIL-STD-810H compliance, at a price of ₹28,000 for the base 8/128GB model. Now the company is introducing a cheaper and not quite as tough phone, the Oppo F27 5G, which goes for ₹23,000 for an 8/128GB phone.

The Oppo F27 5G is rated IP64 – dust tight but with only basic water resistance (no submersion and certainly no water jets like on the Pro+). The 6.67” OLED display (FHD+, 120Hz) can work with wet fingers and boasts a peak brightness of 2,100 nits for outdoor visibility. And notice that it is a flat panel, unlike the curvy Pro+ display.

The F27 has an “Armour Body”, which includes a high-strength alloy framework and toughened glass (no brand name was mentioned, though). The phone weighs 187g and measures 7.69mm or 7.76mm, depending on which colorway you choose (Emerald Green and Amber Orange, respectively).

While it’s not exactly a camera-focused phone, the F27 does have an interesting feature – there is a ring light surrounding the circular camera island. On there are just a 50MP camera and a 2MP depth sensor, plus a regular LED flash. The selfie camera is punch holed into the display and has a 32MP sensor.

Oppo isn’t naming the chipset, but reports point to the Dimensity 6300. This is an entry-level 5G chipset and here it is paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB storage. It runs Android 14 with ColorOS out of the box.

One interesting connectivity feature is BeaconLink, which we’ve also seen on the Reno12 series. Long story short, it uses Bluetooth to create a local voice connection similar to using a walkie-talkie. The effective range is around 200m/650ft.

Anyway, the F27 comes with AI Studio, which lets you “reimagine” your portrait shots into different styles ranging from realistic to cartoony. Additionally, AI Eraser 2.0 can remove people who walked into the frame and you can create stickers to use on social media with the AI Smart Image Matting 2.0 feature that quickly but precisely cuts out people and pets from photos. Additional AI features include AI Recording Summary (transcribes and summarizes voice recordings) and the AI Toolkit, which has a Summary feature for web pages, a Writer that can help you punch up your messages and AI Speak, a high quality text to speech system.

The final item of interest is the 5,000mAh battery, which promises to maintain at least 80% of its original capacity after 4 years of daily charging. It supports 45W SuperVOOC charging, which gets to 100% in 71 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, 10 minutes of charge are enough for 5 hours of video playback.

The Oppo F27 5G can already be found on Oppo’s online store in India with the 8/128GB model costing ₹23,000 ($275/€250). There’s also an 8/256GB model for ₹25,000. Note that certain bank cards can get a 10% discount, check the Oppo store for more details. Additionally, the F27 5G can be found on Amazon, Flipkart and other retailers.
