OnePlus officially confirms the Ace 5 name

Vlad, 27 November 2024

Tetraphobia is a real thing in China, people feel like the number 4 is especially unlucky, and that's why smartphone makers generally tend to skip it. OnePlus is no exception, and today the company has confirmed that the next generation in its Ace line will be the Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro, skipping over 4.

OnePlus' Li Jie has also revealed on Weibo that he recently saw some performance test data for the series and the results are very exciting, in fact it's a generation ahead compared to the same class of phones from OnePlus' competitors.

OnePlus Ace 3 aka OnePlus 12R OnePlus Ace 3 aka OnePlus 12R

The OnePlus Ace 5 is expected to be rebranded internationally as OnePlus 13R. It should be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset if past rumors are to be believed. On the other hand, the Ace 5 Pro will sport the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The duo has been rumored to land in December.

The Ace 5 should come with a flat screen and a circular camera island housed in the top-left part of the back, a 6.78-inch "1.5K" LTPO AMOLED, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultrawide, a 2 MP decorative sensor (either macro or depth, we assume), a 16 MP selfie snapper, and a big battery over 6,000 mAh with support for 100W fast wired charging.

What you say doesn't make any sense. It's the digit 4 that the Chinese don't like. If anything they would avoid 14 not 13.
