Samsung to tease XR glasses at Unpacked in January, launch software platform this month

Samsung has long been rumored to be working on a pair of XR glasses, and today a new report from its home of Korea says we should expect these to be unveiled in prototype from at the Galaxy S25 launch in January.

The glasses will thus not be ready for immediate sale to consumers. Not just that, but apparently there won't even be prototypes to play with at the event - the report says the glasses will be shown "in the form of a video or image".

AI still can't spell AI still can't spell

So more like a teaser then, similar to what happened with the Galaxy Ring at Unpacked in January this year. The smart ring subsequently went on to be fully announced in July.

And would you believe it - according to "the industry", the finalized XR glasses will be released in the third quarter of next year, which is July to September. So Samsung definitely seems to be reprising its own strategy here.

Samsung's glasses are allegedly going to weigh only 50g and look like a typical pair of glasses. They will have a payment function (somehow), will use AI (of course), and will feature both facial recognition (this one probably for those payments) and gesture recognition (supposedly to navigate the UI). The glasses have been developed in partnership with both Google and Qualcomm since February 2023.

Prior to their unveiling, the company is said to first announce its XR software platform, and that should happen by the end of this month.

I hope Samsung can make something similar to the TCL RayNeo X2 glasses. It's far more interesting than Apple's overrated Vision Pro.

But im still waiting for a Smart Glass with Speaker near ear with mic. with display that show message notification. but those message notification will appear only in the bottom in your view not in center.

Exactly. The problem with similar products so far is that they're too uncomfortable after a while. If someone finally solves this, I for one would always go laptops with the smallest screens and just wear something similar.
