Samsung has picked more efficient RAM for the Galaxy S25 series

Peter, 13 January 2025

Samsung used LPDDR5 RAM for the Galaxy S23 series and then upgraded to LPDDR5X for the S24 models. This year’s flagships will stick with LPDDR5X chips, though ETNews reports that the company picked ones made on a smaller node.

The Galaxy S24 series reportedly uses 13nm RAM chips made by Samsung. Today’s report suggests that the Galaxy S25 series will switch to 12nm chips – and that Samsung has switched to Micron for the initial order. For future batches, Samsung is expected to mix in a larger proportion of Samsung-made RAM chips.

The smaller semiconductor node for the S25 RAM will use less power, which will reduce heat and improve efficiency. This RAM will be paired with the Snapdragon 8 Elite on all three (four?) models.

Crucially for fans of the small Galaxy S phones, the vanilla S25 is expected to have 12GB of RAM – it was the last Samsung flagship still on 8GB. All of this should combine to give a solid boost to performance.
