Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 17 Air – a thin device with one camera, and a radically new back design. One leakster posted a photo of the phone's case on social media, showcasing just how big the new bump will be, spanning from one end to the other.

The device will be extremely light with the thinnest profile for an iPhone ever – just 5.5 mm at its base. The island itself will protrude 4 mm, housing just one camera. We don't know what the sensor will be, but we do know the device's fingerprint – it will be just as big as the iPhone 17 Pro Max – 163 mm high and 77.6 mm wide.

The front of the phone will feature a 6.9" LTPO Super Retina display with a Dynamic Island notch. It will have a USB-C port on the bottom, despite Apple's initial plans to launch the iPhone 17 Air as a portless device, in an attempt to test the waters for wireless-charging-only phones in the future.

Camera bumps are there because good cameras require space (large sensor + lens). A thin phone with no camera bump could have no cameras, or only tiny ones capturing only low quality images.
