Deals: the Pixel 9 Pro Fold now available, Pixel 9 Pro coming soon

Peter, 07 September 2024

We welcomed the vanilla Google Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro XL flagship at the end of August, now attention shifts towards the small Pro and Google’s next-generation foldable.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold shifts to a more traditional 20:9 aspect ratio for the cover display, compared to 17.4:9 for the original Pixel Fold. Also, the inner display grows significantly with the new 8” diagonal. There’s also the more efficient Tensor G4 chipset, but that pretty much covers the major upgrades this year.

For reference, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is slightly more expensive.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro isn’t here just yet, it will launch on September 16 (Monday). While not the smallest flagship around (both the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 Pro are smaller), it stands out with the 48MP 113mm periscope and 48MP ultra wide cameras, as well as the 42MP ultra wide selfie camera.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 is noticeably cheaper than the Pixel and it will have the same 7 years of support (the Z Fold6 will as well). However, the S24 has half the RAM capacity, a smaller 4,000mAh battery and less impressive cameras – 10MP 3x tele and 12MP ultra wide.

Note that the Pixel 9 Pro comes with a free storage upgrade. Also, Amazon offers extra credit as bonus when trading in an old device.

This applies to the Google Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL too, both get a free storage upgrade and trade-in bonus.

The Google Pixel Watch 3 will start shipping on Tuesday. This generation comes in 41mm size as the first two, but now you can opt for a larger 45mm model too – in addition to increasing the screen size from 1.2” to 1.4”, you also get a larger 420mAh battery (up from 307mAh).

Finally, the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 deserve a mention – the new Tensor A1 chipset promises double the noise cancellation of the original Pros. However, these won’t launch until later this month, so we’ll have to revisit them.

We may get a commission from qualifying sales.

They are surpressing Xiaomi, Honor and ZTE to keep prices sky high. Also making it hard to buy with huge taxes and fake claims. That is why big brands are so expensive while same quality but chinese devices are not easily accesable.
