CIRP: Demand for iPhone 16 increases, affordable 16e is off to a great start

Apple saw strong initial demand for iPhone 16e, reveals CIRP (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners) in its latest report. The non-flagship performed better than its predecessor, the 2022 iPhone SE, in the US.

Demand for current-gen iPhones was higher in Q1, the report added. 74% of all phones Apple sold were part of the iPhone 16 family, compared with 68% share for the iPhone 15 lineup last year.

The iPhone 16e, which is technically a midranger in the Apple portfolio with its $600 price tag, had a 7% share of all sales. CIRP stated the percentage was better than the SE at launch, although we have graphics only for 2024.

We should point out that iPhone 16 surpassed iPhone 15, but the other flagship-level phones from the current series failed to match the success of their 2024 predecessors. It is the 16e that carried the lineup, and we expect the trend to carry over in Q2.

The appeal for the new base iPhone comes from its A18 chip, 6.1" OLED panel and Apple Intelligence. Yes, it lacks Dynamic Island, MagSafe support and only has a single camera, but that didn't stop millions of people from buying it.
