Dev channel update brings Play Store to Asus Chromebook Flip

Himanshu, 17 June, 2016

A new developer channel update (version 53) is currently rolling out to Asus' Chromebook Flip that brings support for Android apps, making Flip the first Chromebook to get the Play Store.

This means that Flip users can now install and use their favorite Android apps on their Chromebook, although choice seems to be limited at this point - some popular apps like Google+ are currently being shown as incompatible.

This comes after Google released a list of Chromebooks last month saying that these will be the first to support Android apps. At that time, the company said the support will arrive starting next month, so the update is right on time. Aside from the Asus Chromebook Flip, Acer Chromebook R11 and Google Chromebook Pixel (2015) are also slated to receive the support this month.

Do not have the final version but tried it on my flip and it works better than on my phone (Version 53.0.2768.0 dev) not all apps worked and did not find a way to stream it. But the apps that work are very smooth and stable.

I got the update this morning. It is a little buggy, but overall a HUGE deal. Chromebooks will become very popular by the end of the year.
