Sony pulls the plug on Xperia Beta program

Himanshu, 15 July, 2016

Sony has confirmed that it's shutting down its Xperia Beta program which was launched earlier this year to beta test the company's official Marshmallow software. This means that there'll be no more beta firmware releases in the future.

The Japanese firm has further confirmed that all Xperia Z2/Z3 units will start receiving a new commercial firmware release in the coming weeks, with those on a beta build being updated automatically.

The move shouldn't really come as a surprise given that Sony had said in April that the Xperia Beta program will continue until "at least the middle of" 2016.
