Huawei may choose Tizen OS for its upcoming smartwatches

Kaloyan, 28 September 2016

Huawei is reportedly looking to ditch Android Wear OS in favor of Tizen for its next smartwatches. The company wants to explore some alternatives as Google is cited to be "not very collaborative" for its Wear OS.

Apparently, Huawei is eyeing Samsung's fully open-source Tizen OS, which has been used on most Samsung Gear wearables. Samsung has also installed Tizen on a few entry-level smartphones.

Don't up your hopes though. According to a Samsung's rep Huawei hasn't made approaches for Tizen collaboration, so all is just rumors for now.

But given the rather low interest towards the Android Wear gadgets lately, either because of the customization restrictions or limited functionality, more companies may want to explore alternative options. And Tizen is probably the first thing to come to mind.

Happy owner of Gear Fit 2. Last for 2-3 days without charging. The OS is quick. Real quick. Looking forward Gear S3.
