Samsung is working on a way to control Gear VR with a Gear smartwatch

Victor, 03 October 2016

Samsung has really taken the smart wearable concept to heart these past few years. We now hear that the company plans to incorporate its smartwatches into the Gear VR experience.

A new rumor claims that Samsung is working on an application for its Tizen watch OS that will allow the Gear S2 and Gear S3 to be used as input devices for the Gear VR. This apparently entails general navigation. For instance, turning the bezel to make selections and using a physical button on the watch to confirm.

However, what is even more exciting is the prospect of incorporating the wearable as a controller within VR games and experiences. The small watches are already equipped with a slew of sensors, making the possible implications and possibilities truly exciting.

Unfortunately, there is still no ETA on the project, but it could be some time now. It is likely that Samsung will debut the new feature along with next year's Galaxy S8 flagship. This does make sense, since the latter is said to bring huge advances to the mobile VR realm.
