Xiaomi becomes second largest smartphone vendor in India in Q4 2016

Prasad, 14 February 2017

Xiaomi has announced that it has become the second largest smartphone vendor in India in the last quarter of the calendar year of 2016. This is largely due to the sales of the Redmi 3S variants, which collectively sold over 3 million in under six months since its launch last year.

This is according to the IDC report, which further states that Xiaomi climbed up to second place with 10.7% share in CY Q4 2016 versus 3.3% during same quarter last year. Year-on-year shipments grew threefold with a sequential growth of 15.3% in CY Q4 2016.

Xiaomi started business in India back in 2014. Since then it has gone on to become the largest online smartphone vendor in India and is now making in-roads with the overall smartphone sales. The company recently launched the Redmi 3S+, an offline-only variant of the popular Redmi 3S Prime. Almost all the Redmi 3S devices sold in India are manufactured locally. The company recently launched the Redmi Note 4 as well.

Man, ask xiaomi about their overall market share in 2016.. They are at no5. Its only the Q4 2016.. Where xiaomi beat lenovo/Motorola. There were no significant launches from them in that period. In overall 2016, its still lenovo/moto at no2....
