ZTE is rolling out Android 7.1.1 for the Axon 7

Victor, 16 March 2017

ZTE hit a home run with the Axon 7 - flagship specs, accompanied by a stylish exterior and amazing sound setup at a much lower price than you'd expect. It is one of the few handsets out there that successfully managed to take on the OnePlus 3 in the unique value segment it spearheaded. Perfectly aware of this, the Chinese manufacturer has really been keeping on top of things in the software department.

The first Nougat update hit units last month and already an even newer Android 7.1.1 OTA is being pushed to users. The new package doesn't bring as many new features as the initial Android 7.0 installment, which brought about things like RAW and Daydream VR compatibility. Still, there are a few interesting points to note from the change log.

For one, T-Mobile subscribers seem to be getting some extra love and attention. Through the OTA, the Axon 7 will support Wi-Fi calling, as well as messaging on the network - particularly useful in areas with bad reception. Speaking of texting, the update also contains quite a few new emojis, including Google's "gender-equal" pack. A few additional optimizations have been made to Daydream as well and last but not least, the new February Android security patch is baked into the mix.

As far as we can gather, the update appears to already be seeding in the US. If it is not available in your region yet, the wait shouldn't be long now that the ROM is out there.

No worries. Basically the only let down with the Axon 7 is the software, but which is not so bad but the competition is fierce now, so they should definitely improve in future phones.
