Galaxy S8's Bixby will only understand US English and Korean at launch

One of the big selling points for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be the built-in Bixby virtual assistant, at least according to Samsung's presentation. After all, the company even added a physical button for it. So with that said, you'd expect it to support many different languages. Well, in that case you'd be disappointed.

When the S8 duo launches, Bixby will only understand US English and Korean. Other languages will be coming in the future, but there's no time frame to speak of (not even a vague one). Furthermore, Samsung's assistant will only work with a few native apps at first - including Call, Camera, Gallery, Settings, and Message. Again, support is said to widen in time, but we don't know when.

The Bixby Vision feature that works inside your camera viewfinder to detect what you're looking at and let you shop online for things it recognizes will only work in 11 countries at launch, including the US, UK, and Korea. Yes, this too will expand to other places in the future.

Samsung has published the infographic you can see above giving you a quick look at Bixby's abilities, but you do have to keep the aforementioned limitations in mind when reading it.

All these additional services which is going to drain battery life massively. iPhone needs to avoid unnecessary things like this! Their battery life is bad as it is.

And so begins the messy onslaught of regional/language restrictions! I knew this would happen, that's why I against the idea of Bixby in the first place.

Here we go with another bloat that almost no one is ever gonna use. They even put a button for it.
