Samsung is working on the Galaxy S8 active for AT&T

Vlad, 14 April 2017

In a bit of news that will surprise absolutely no one following the mobile world, Samsung is now said to be working on the Galaxy S8 active. The handset will be sold by AT&T, and if we go by what happened in the past few years, it's going to be exclusive to that particular carrier. Like all the other actives before it, the S8 version should be ruggedized too. It's going to launch with the model number SM-G892A, and it's apparently codenamed Cruiser.

No other details about it have been outed thus far. It will be interesting to see how Samsung goes about modifying the design of the vanilla Galaxy S8 in order to make it more rugged, and how much uglier that process will end up making it. After all, the Galaxy S7 active has looks that are far removed from those of the non-active phone, so we should probably expect a similar transformation for this year's flagship device.

Speaking of expectations, the S8 active is very likely to come with MIL-STD 810G certification while also keeping the IP68 rating of the vanilla S8. Since previous actives were unveiled in the summer, it's likely that the Galaxy S8 active will get official within the next two-three months.
