Android Pay is finally official in Canada

A lot of Google products and services aren't available in Canada as soon as they are out in the US, which for Canadians must be even more frustrating than for people in other parts of the world because of the geographical proximity of the two countries. Android Pay used to be in such a predicament, but not anymore.

Today Google has finally decided to officially launch the service in Canada, following months of rumors and leaks anticipating the move. The latest of those leaks came less than 24 hours ago, in fact.

You can use Android Pay at hundreds of thousands of shops across the country, including Tim Hortons, Loblaws, Petro-Canada, McDonald’s, Indigo, Pizza Pizza, Sears Canada, Telus, Rogers, and Freedom Mobile. For online purchases Android Pay works with such apps as Lululemon, Uber, Ritual, and HotelTonight - among many others. As you'd expect, you can also store your gift and loyalty cards inside the Android Pay app for easy retrieval when needed.

You'll need an eligible Visa or MasterCard credit card issued by BMO Bank of Montreal, CIBC, Banque Nationale, Scotiabank, Desjardins, President’s Choice Financial, ATB Financial, or Canadian Tire Financial Services, or a prepaid card from Scotiabank or Desjardins. Interac debit cards will be supported starting on Monday, while if you own an American Express or Tangerine card you'll have to wait until "later this summer". Obviously you can add multiple cards into Android Pay, and select which one to use before you make any payment.
