Supplier reportedly confirms new iPhone will have wireless charging

Enrique, 15 June 2017

We’ve already heard many rumors about Apple’s next iPhone and whether it will support some kind of wireless charging. Today’s report comes from Nikkei Asian Review who says that the CEO of Wistron, Robert Hwang, said:

Assembly process for the previous generations of [iPhones] have not changed much, though new features like waterproof and wireless charging now require some different testing, and waterproof function will alter the assembly process a bit.

This is why we still need to be skeptical with reports like these. If we wanted to speculate on exactly what Hwang said, it’s a possibility that he was not even referring to current iPhones when he said “previous generations of iPhones” in the above quote. After all, Wistron does manufacture the iPhone SE in India, which has neither wireless charging nor waterproofing.

Anyway, we’ll surely hear more contradicting reports up until hours before Apple’s actual announcement. All eyes will be on Apple this year as it announces the company’s tenth anniversary of the original iPhone released back in 2007.
