Prasad, 27 October 2017

Sony has launched two new smartphones in the Indian market, the Xperia R1 and the Xperia R1 Plus. These are compact, budget Android phones that Sony claims are “designed for Indian lifestyle” and “designed to excite the new Indian”, whatever that means.

The Xperia R1 has a 5.2-inch, TFT LCD with 720p resolution. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. In terms of imaging, the phone has a 13 megapixel camera on the back with Sony’s Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, which uses object tracking and motion prediction to focus on moving objects. On the front is an 8 megapixel camera that also has the same focusing system.

Other features include a 2,620mAh battery, dual SIM support, USB-C connectivity, FM radio and Android Nougat.

The Xperia R1 Plus is nearly identical to the R1 but has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage instead.

The Xperia R1 is priced at INR 13,990 ($215) and the Xperia R1 Plus at INR 15,990 ($245). Both phones will be available in Black and Silver.
