Apple iMac Pro to go on sale on December 14

Prasad, 12 December 2017

The Apple iMac Pro will be available for purchase starting December 14. Prices start at $4999 for the base configuration.

The iMac Pro is the most power Mac Apple has ever made. The base configuration comes with an 8-core Intel Xeon, 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 ECC memory, 1TB SSD, AMD Radeon Pro Vega 56 GPU with 8GB HBM2 memory, 5K Retina display, 10Gb Ethernet, four Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) with support for two additional 5K external monitors, and that sick Space Gray finish for the main machine as well as the supplied Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse.

However, if you feel like going all out, the machine can be configured with an 18-core Xeon, 128GB ECC memory, 4TB SSD, and Radeon Pro Vega 64 with 16GB HBM2, although the exact cost of this configuration is unknown.

There hasn't been a proper, balls to the wall Mac since 2013, which hasn't aged well due to its lack of upgrade options. The iMac Pro isn't particularly upgradable either, which is why Apple is also working on a successor, which should be coming in the next couple of years. Meanwhile, the iMac Pro should do the job for individuals or companies looking to replace their aging Mac Pros with something more recent and capable of higher workloads.
