Xiaomi launches Redmi 5 in India

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 5 smartphone in India. The phone will be available through Mi.com and Amazon India.

The Redmi 5 is the smaller variant of the Redmi Note 5 launched in India last month, which is also known elsewhere as Redmi 5 Plus.

The Redmi 5 has a 5.7-inch, 1440x720 pixel IPS LCD with 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 with a choice of 2GB or 3GB of RAM with 16GB or 32GB storage, respectively. The phone has a 12MP camera on the back with f2.2 aperture and PDAF and a 5MP camera on the front with Beautify 3.0 software. Lastly, there's a 3300mAh battery with standard 10W charging.

The Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1 Nougat.

The phone will go on sale on March 20, 12:00 IST for INR 7999 ($123) for the 2/16GB model and INR 8,999 ($138) for the 3/32GB model.

cross that number 2 out. oreo already released so releasing phone with nougat is planned obsolescence

it's bigger but will it last longer with smaller bal*cough*, I mean batteries. girls seem hate them out of juice quickly
