Weekly poll: how hot is the new Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s?

Peter, 08 April 2018

Notches have become the must-have design element of 2018 phones, but a few phones have resisted that movement. And, ironically, a flat, rectangular screen stands out in the 2018 flagship lineup. Don't listen to that "more screen, less bezel" talk either, thin bezels can exist independently of notches.

We present the Mi Mix 2s for your consideration. It fits a 6" 18:9 screen is a body that's almost the same size as a 6" 18:9 screen. Sure, it has a bit of a chin on the bottom, but so do most notched Androids. The one trade-off made in this design is that the selfie camera is on the bottom. You'll need to hold the phone horizontally or upside down to take a decent shot, but that's hardly a big deal.

Previous Mix phones were so focused on the screen, that they forgot about having a decent rear camera. This one finally remembered and packs a 12MP dual camera with a fairly bright f/1.8 aperture and large 1.4µm pixels on the main unit. The other cam has a 2x telephoto lens (f/2.4, 1.0µm pixels). The camera hump design is a bit too reminiscent of the iPhone X for our tastes, though.

Anyway, the Mi Mix 2s is one of the first Xiaomi phones to launch with Oreo beneath the MIUI mask and packs the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset. Xiaomi didn't skimp on the memory either, it starts off at 6GB/64GB and goes up to 8GB/256GB.

The battery is the same size as before, 3,400mAh, but this is the first Mix to include wireless charging. And it has a ceramic body, similar to that of its predecessors and a welcome break from the metal-and-glass sandwich that has dominated flagship design in recent years.

On the flip side, an LG V30 has almost exactly the same dimensions, same screen-to-body ratio too. And it has a QHD P-OLED screen to boot, though an older Snapdragon 835 chipset.

If it's the chipset you're after, the Asus Zenfone 5z has an 845 chip and a slightly larger screen fitted inside a similarly-sized body. It does have a notch, but many are okay with that. And the price is quite reasonable too - €480 when it comes out in June. Then there's the Huawei P20 Pro, which proved popular among our readers.

Time to cast your votes - are you a fan of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s or not?

Dude... First bezzles smartphone is Xiaomi Mi Mix... And everyone started to copy it. Even Samsung, and after that is Apple!

No amoled, could made that chin on top for proper camera arrangment, no 3.5mm no sd card( not big issue). IPhonish design, a lot of issues with 2s. First Mi Mix was hot, but now a lot of phones has bezeless screens so everything goes to functionality...
