Microsoft is working on a new smart speaker

Himanshu, 10 May 2018

According to a new report, Microsoft is working on a new smart speaker. The report says the company is collaborating with Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta on the project, which is still in its early stages.

The speaker will be powered by Microsoft's own Cortana digital assistant. The report says the device features Snapdragon 212 SoC, which suggests it should be among the more affordable options in the market.

As far as project status is concerned, the design of reference boards has been completed. However, there's lack of clarity whether a Microsoft will deliver an actual product to the market, or if it will only do a reference design to be used by other manufacturers.

Their next big success, just like Zune and Windows phone ;-)

Microsoft already has a smart speaker. This is just for a new version.

Microsoft? Thanks, no. It will work slow and glitchy and will be abandoned in year after release. It's Microsoft, don't wait anything good from that company.
