Xiaomi is launching a new phone in India on June 7, might be Redmi S2 rebranded as Redmi Y2

The BlackBerry Key2 isn't the only smartphone that will get unveiled on June 7. On the same day, Xiaomi is holding an event in India, where it will launch a selfie focused handset.

To build up the hype, the company is using the hashtag #RealYou, with the "Y" in there being differently colored - a not so subtle hint that the upcoming device will be in the Y series. We'll call it Redmi Y2, and rumor has it this will just be a rebranded Redmi S2.

The Redmi S2 launched in China last week with a big focus on selfies, and Xiaomi is pushing the same in its teaser above, so it stands to reason that the rumors would pan out in this respect.

If that's true, then expect the Redmi Y2 to also have a 5.99" 720 x 1440 LCD touchscreen, the Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3/4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of storage, dual 12 MP + 5 MP rear cams, a 16 MP selfie shooter with huge 2.0µm pixels, and a 3,080 mAh battery. It should run Android 8.1 Oreo from day one, underneath MIUI 9.5.

Fun fact: Oppo has created a new sub-brand to help it better compete with Xiaomi's Redmi phones. This is called Realme. So with that #RealYou hashtag Xiaomi is also taking a jab at Oppo, it would seem.
