Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact get Google Lens in the camera app

Vlad, 31 May 2018

Today Sony is announcing that Google Lens has made it into the camera app of its Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact smartphones. You'll get it through a free update of the preinstalled Google app. Additionally, the recently unveiled Xperia XZ2 Premium will launch with the Lens functionality in the camera app built-in.

Google Lens helps you identify what you're pointing the camera at - buildings, landmarks, dog breeds, and much more. With it, you can find products online, copy text from the real world around you and paste it into any app on your phone, add events to your calendar, as well as get more information about landmarks and movies. Lens also identifies popular plants and animals for you.

Currently, Google Lens supports English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Italian. Note that the rollout of the update that brings Google Lens into the XZ2 family's camera app is phased, and it may take a few days for it to reach all devices out there.
