HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ go live in India

Ro, 07 June 2018

Launched back in March, the two low-end HTC devices, the Desire 12 and Desire 12+, make it to the Indian market as well. It's obvious that the Taiwanese company is trying to make a dent in the Indian market where Samsung is losing some ground to the Chinese manufacturers, namely Xiaomi, vivo and Oppo, but will this be enough?

Anyway, since both Desire phones have had their official global release, the specs are hardly of anyone's surprise. The Desire 12 comes with 5.5-inch low-res (720x1440), tall 18:9 display, quad-core MediaTek MT6739 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage and Android 7.0 Nougat running the show. Of course, the HTC Sense UI is in there as well.

On the camera front, we have a 13MP rear-mounted sensor with f/2.2 aperture while the front sports a 5MP front-facing sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The package gets a rather small 2,730 mAh battery to power it all.

As for the bigger Desire 12+, it gets a larger 6-inch display with the same 720 x 1440 resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. At least it features an octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. And the fact that it comes with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, it's definitely something worth considering over the standard Desire 12.

On the back of the device, the Desire 12+ houses a 13MP camera with f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 2MP sensor for depth sensing along with the fingerprint reader. An 8MP camera sits on the front with, surprisingly wider f/2.0 aperture. All of the hardware is fueled by a slightly bigger 2,965 mAh unit.

Both devices feature rather cool build involving metal. It seems that the build is the only thing going on for them since there are a lot of other low to mid-range devices with better specs from the Chinese manufacturers. The Desire 12's asking price is INR 15,800 ($235) while the Desire 12+ goes for INR 19,790 ($295). Both devices are available for pre-order on HTC's eStore starting today.
