The Moto Camera app got a major update after the Moto Z3 Play announcement the other day, introducing deeper integration with Google Photos and new UI. However, the update is available only to 2018 Moto devices.

Along with the cool Google Lens integration that's built into the camera app, there's added Google Photos functionalities as well. For instance, swiping left will take you to the sharing, editing and backup tools options. Photos taken with Moto's Best Shot and Portrait modes will be marked in Google Photos' library.

Here's what else the app brings:

  • Single finger up/down zoom
  • Drag to focus with exposure UI
  • Improved modes exit UI
  • Combined front / rear camera settings UI
  • Google Lens
  • YouTube Live
  • Bug fixes and stability improvements

I tend to consider all gapps as spy/bloatware. You can't fully disable without root, and with Google integrating them more and more into the system it might be a problem to do so later. I like third party apps that don't ask for my location...
