Google Maps gets updated Material Design language and some small new features
Google released a new version of its Maps app that brings some new features as well as a complete design overhaul.
The new interface is a bit cleaner, buttons are rounder and there are some new options if you are looking to explore events and places in your area.
For instance, the "Explore" tab gives you a wide variety of categories with carousel-style scroll for the suggested places. Tapping on more will display every possible category and sub-category.
If you are all about events, however, Google Maps can now sort them by time or distance.
The update seems to be widely distributed so you should get it as well if you haven't already. Just check Google's Play Store to know if you are on the latest version.

Still, cheap and outdated design. No option to set darker background. Burns my eyes in the night. I´m getting tired of "material" design.

Have to agree 100%. The white background with black letters reminds me the oldskool windows mobile era. Too bad, that all google apps like this. Maybe a dark theme is too complicated for google to design.
