VLC for iOS update brings Chromecast support

VLC just got an update for iOS app, bringing the version to 3.1.0. According to the changelog, VLC for iOS now offers Chromecast support. It means you can finally stream content on VLC at your TV via the Google dongle.

The app update also finally allows you to watch 360 videos by moving the phone instead of swiping on the screen. The update, found on the App Store, also brings bug fixes, improved audio playback quality, stability and performance improvements and Google Drive logins. Also, when you download files, they will not disappear.

  • We added a feature many of you waited for: Chromecast support
  • We fixed a bug where files on your phone were not displayed in VLC
  • 360 videos can be viewed by moving your phone now
  • Stability and performance improvements when decoding H.264/H.265 in hardware
  • Improved audio playback quality
  • Fixed a regression preventing the download of certain media files via http
  • Fixed a regression where downloaded files might disappear
  • Fixed a regression where users couldn't log into Google Drive

Wow, that's sweet. VLC can play any media you throw at it, so now you can wirelessly beam any media to a monitor near you....without being at the mercy of Apple/AirPlay/iTV.
